Can Wearing High Heels Alter Foot Structure?

Wearing high heels can significantly impact the structure of your feet over time. These stylish shoes force the foot into an unnatural position, with the heel elevated and the toes pointed downward. This altered stance places excessive pressure on the forefoot, potentially leading to structural changes such as bunions, hammertoes, and increased risk of arthritis. The continuous use of high heels can shorten the Achilles tendon and weaken the calf muscles, affecting overall foot alignment and posture. Additionally, the lack of proper arch support in high heels can contribute to conditions like plantar fasciitis. If you have developed a foot condition from wearing high heels, it is suggested that you consult a podiatrist who can help you with an effective treatment plan.

High heels have a history of causing foot and ankle problems. If you have any concerns about your feet or ankles, contact one of our providers from Gentle Touch Foot Medspa. Our staff members can provide the care you need to keep you pain-free and on your feet.

Effects of High Heels on the Feet

High heels are popular shoes among women because of their many styles and societal appeal.  Despite this, high heels can still cause many health problems if worn too frequently.

Which Parts of My Body Will Be Affected by High Heels?

  • Ankle Joints
  • Achilles Tendon – May shorten and stiffen with prolonged wear
  • Balls of the Feet
  • Knees – Heels cause the knees to bend constantly, creating stress on them
  • Back – They decrease the spine’s ability to absorb shock, which may lead to back pain.  The vertebrae of the lower back may compress.

What Kinds of Foot Problems Can Develop from Wearing High Heels?

  • Corns
  • Calluses
  • Hammertoe
  • Bunions
  • Morton’s Neuroma
  • Plantar Fasciitis

How Can I Still Wear High Heels and Maintain Foot Health?

If you want to wear high heeled shoes, make sure that you are not wearing them every day, as this will help prevent long term physical problems.  Try wearing thicker heels as opposed to stilettos to distribute weight more evenly across the feet.  Always make sure you are wearing the proper shoes for the right occasion, such as sneakers for exercising.  If you walk to work, try carrying your heels with you and changing into them once you arrive at work.  Adding inserts to your heels can help cushion your feet and absorb shock. Full foot inserts or metatarsal pads are available.

Manicure Basics

manicureA manicure is a beauty treatment focused on the care and maintenance of the hands and nails. The basics of a manicure include cleaning, trimming, shaping, and polishing the nails to enhance their appearance and health. The process begins with soaking the hands to soften the skin and cuticles. Next, the cuticles are gently pushed back and trimmed if necessary. The nails are then shaped using a file to achieve the desired look, whether square, round, or oval. Buffing the nails can add a natural shine and smooth the nail surface. After shaping, a moisturizing treatment is applied to the hands, often accompanied by a relaxing hand massage to improve circulation and relieve tension. Finally, a base coat, nail polish, and top coat are applied for a glossy, long-lasting finish. For a professional and luxurious manicure experience, it is suggested that you visit a medical spa.

For more information about getting manicures at a medical spa, contact one of our providers from Gentle Touch Foot MedspaOur staff members provide exceptional manicures to address all your fingernail concerns while ensuring a pampering experience.

Getting a manicure at a medical spa offers a unique blend of luxury, hygiene, and therapeutic benefits. Medical spas are known for their stringent standards of cleanliness and professional care, making them an ideal choice for individuals with specific health concerns or those simply seeking a superior manicure experience.

The process begins with a thorough consultation to understand the client's needs and any medical conditions that might affect the treatment. This is particularly important for individuals with diabetes, circulatory issues, or compromised immune systems. The use of sterilized tools and high-quality, hypoallergenic products ensures that the risk of infection is minimized.

During the manicure, the nails are meticulously trimmed, shaped, and buffed. Cuticle care is performed with precision to avoid any nicks or cuts, reducing the risk of infection. A gentle exfoliation follows, removing dead skin cells and leaving the hands feeling smooth and rejuvenated. The highlight of the treatment is often the hand massage, which uses therapeutic techniques to enhance relaxation, improve circulation, and relieve stress.

Clients can also choose from a variety of nail polish options, including non-toxic and breathable formulas that promote nail health. Some medical spas offer additional treatments such as paraffin wax dips for deep hydration or LED light therapy for enhanced nail strength and growth.

One of the key benefits of getting a manicure at a medical spa is the personalized care provided by trained professionals who are adept at handling a variety of health conditions. For a truly safe and pampering experience, consider visiting a medical spa for your next manicure.

What should I do if I experience discomfort during a manicure at a medical spa?

Inform the technician immediately if you experience any discomfort. They are trained to address concerns promptly and ensure your experience is safe and pleasant.

Better Foot Health for Athletes

Athletes rely heavily on their feet to perform at their best, making foot health a top priority. Choosing the right footwear is essential for support, stability, and cushioning, reducing the risk of injury. Properly fitted shoes prevent discomfort and pain caused by ill-fitting options. Socks also play a vital role, providing a barrier against moisture and bacteria, which can lead to infections. Overtraining or increasing workout intensity too quickly can strain the feet, leading to conditions like stress fractures or muscle strains. Incorporating foot exercises and stretches can strengthen the muscles, improve flexibility and increase resilience. If foot pain occurs, it is important to listen to your body and seek help from a podiatrist. This medically trained foot doctor can offer expert advice on injury prevention, diagnose underlying issues, and provide treatment to keep you active. If you have foot problems that impede your ability to work out, it is suggested that you schedule an appointment with a podiatrist.

Everyday foot care is very important to prevent infection and other foot ailments. If you need your feet checked, contact one of our providers from Gentle Touch Foot Medspa. Our staff members can provide the care you need to keep you pain-free and on your feet.

Everyday Foot Care

Often, people take care of their bodies, face and hair more so than they do for their feet. But the feet are a very important aspect of our bodies, and one that we should pay more attention to. Without our feet, we would not be able to perform most daily tasks.

It is best to check your feet regularly to make sure there are no new bruises or cuts that you may not have noticed before. For dry feet, moisturizer can easily be a remedy and can be applied as often as necessary to the affected areas. Wearing shoes that fit well can also help you maintain good foot health, as well as making it easier to walk and do daily activities without the stress or pain of ill-fitting shoes, high heels, or even flip flops. Wearing clean socks with closed shoes is important to ensure that sweat and bacteria do not accumulate within the shoe. Clean socks help to prevent Athlete’s foot, fungi problems, bad odors, and can absorb sweat.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact our office located in Arlington, TX . We offer the newest diagnostic and treatment technologies for all your foot and ankle needs.

Instilling Good Foot Care Habits in Children

Teaching children about the importance of stretching their feet is important for fostering lifelong foot health. As kids engage in various physical activities, from running to playing sports, their feet endure significant stress. Stretching not only helps to alleviate tension and prevent injuries, such as strains or sprains, but also promotes flexibility and balance, which are essential for overall athletic performance and daily activities. Introducing foot stretching to children can be fun and engaging. Simple stretches, like toe curls, ankle rotations, and calf stretches, can be incorporated into warm-up routines before sports or even as a daily habit. Emphasize the benefits of stretching, such as improved movement and reduced pain, to help them understand its value. By instilling these good foot health habits early, including regular stretching, children are more likely to maintain strong, healthy feet as they grow. If your child is experiencing foot problems, it is suggested that you visit a podiatrist.

Stretching the feet is a great way to prevent injuries. If you have any concerns with your feet consult with one of our providers from Gentle Touch Foot Medspa. Our staff members will assess your condition and provide you with quality foot and ankle treatment.

Stretching the Feet

Stretching the muscles in the foot is an important part in any physical activity. Feet that are tight can lead to less flexibility and make you more prone to injury. One of the most common forms of foot pain, plantar fasciitis, can be stretched out to help ease the pain. Stretching can not only ease pain from plantar fasciitis but also prevent it as well. However, it is important to see a podiatrist first if stretching is right for you. Podiatrists can also recommend other ways to stretch your feet. Once you know whether stretching is right for you, here are some excellent stretches you can do.

  • Using a foam roller or any cylindrical object (a water bottle or soda can will do), roll the object under your foot back and forth. You should also exert pressure on the object. Be sure to do this to both feet for a minute. Do this exercise three times each.
  • Similar to the previous one, take a ball, such as a tennis ball, and roll it under your foot while seated and exert pressure on it.
  • Grab a resistance band or towel and take a seat. If you are using a towel, fold it length wise. Next put either one between the ball of your foot and heel and pull with both hands on each side towards you. Hold this for 15 seconds and then switch feet. Do this three times for each foot.
  • Finally hold your big toe while crossing one leg over the other. Pull the toe towards you and hold for 15 seconds. Once again do this three times per foot.

It is best to go easy when first stretching your foot and work your way up. If your foot starts hurting, stop exercising and ice and rest the foot. It is advised to then see a podiatrist for help.

callusAt a medical spa, the removal of calluses is both a relaxing and rejuvenating experience. Typically, the process begins with a soothing foot soak that softens the calluses, making them easier to treat. Expert aestheticians then gently exfoliate the affected areas, often using professional-grade tools designed specifically for callus removal. This not only reduces the thickened skin but also promotes healthier skin growth. To enhance the healing, a hydrating moisturizer is applied, which penetrates deeply to restore the skin's natural moisture balance. This comprehensive care not only alleviates discomfort but also improves the overall appearance of the feet. If you are looking to safely and effectively remove calluses, it is suggested that you visit a medical spa for a specialized approach that combines advanced treatment with a touch of luxury.

For more information about the importance of going to a medical spa for your hand and foot treatments, contact one of our providers of Gentle Touch Foot MedspaOur staff members offer expert spa treatments designed to help you relax in the healthiest way possible.

Nail services at a medical spa offer a unique blend of aesthetic beauty and health benefits, setting them apart from traditional nail salons. These services, provided in a clinical environment, prioritize both the appearance and well-being of your nails, integrating advanced care techniques that promote overall nail health.

At a medical spa, nail treatments begin with a thorough assessment by skilled professionals. This ensures that any underlying issues, such as fungal infections, brittle nails, or skin conditions, are identified and addressed. The use of medical-grade products and sterile tools minimizes the risk of infections, providing a safe and hygienic experience.

Manicures and pedicures at a medical spa often incorporate therapeutic elements. For instance, treatments may include paraffin wax dips to soothe arthritis pain, and specialized massages to improve circulation and reduce stress. These enhancements not only beautify the nails but also promote relaxation and wellness.

One significant advantage of choosing a medical spa for nail services is the expertise of the staff. Many medical spas employ podiatrists or dermatologists who can provide insights and treatments for more severe nail or skin issues. This level of expertise ensures that any concerns are managed with the highest standard of care.

Additionally, medical spas often offer advanced treatments like laser therapy for fungal nail infections. This non-invasive procedure targets the infection directly, promoting healthier nail growth without the need for oral medications, which can have side effects. Such innovative treatments highlight the comprehensive approach to nail care that medical spas provide.

Furthermore, the tranquil environment of a medical spa enhances the overall experience. With a focus on creating a serene atmosphere, clients can enjoy their treatments in a setting designed for relaxation and rejuvenation. This holistic approach not only caters to aesthetic needs but also contributes to mental well-being.

Can I get customized nail care plans at a medical spa?

Yes, medical spas often create customized nail care plans based on individual assessments, addressing specific concerns like fungal infections, brittle nails, or other nail health issues. These personalized plans ensure effective and targeted treatments.

How often should I visit a medical spa for nail services?

It depends on your specific nail health needs and personal preferences. Typically, regular visits every 3 to 4 weeks are recommended to maintain optimal nail health and appearance.

What should I expect during my first visit to a medical spa for nail services?

During your first visit, a professional will conduct a thorough assessment of your nails and any underlying issues. Based on this evaluation, they will recommend appropriate treatments and provide a personalized care plan.

Definition and Risk Factors for Toenail Fungus

Toenail fungus, or onychomycosis, is a common infection characterized by changes in the appearance of the toenail. It often begins with discoloration, turning the nail yellow, white, or brown, and may lead to thickening, crumbling, or detachment of the nail. The fungus thrives in warm, damp environments, making it more likely to develop if feet are frequently exposed to moisture or if proper hygiene is not maintained. Risk factors include having a weakened immune system, wearing tight or non-breathable shoes, and having diabetes, which also increases susceptibility to infections. Identifying toenail fungus early is vital for effective treatment, which can include antifungal medications and improved foot care practices. If you have developed toenail fungus, it is strongly suggested that you are under the care of a podiatrist who can prescribe medication for effective treatment.

If left untreated, toenail fungus may spread to other toenails, skin, or even fingernails. If you suspect you have toenail fungus it is important to seek treatment right away. For more information about treatment, contact one of our providers of Gentle Touch Foot Medspa. Our staff members can provide the care you need to keep you pain-free and on your feet.

Symptoms

  • Warped or oddly shaped nails
  • Yellowish nails
  • Loose/separated nail
  • Buildup of bits and pieces of nail fragments under the nail
  • Brittle, broken, thickened nail

Treatment

If self-care strategies and over-the-counter medications does not help your fungus, your podiatrist may give you a prescription drug instead. Even if you find relief from your toenail fungus symptoms, you may experience a repeat infection in the future.

Prevention

In order to prevent getting toenail fungus in the future, you should always make sure to wash your feet with soap and water. After washing, it is important to dry your feet thoroughly especially in between the toes. When trimming your toenails, be sure to trim straight across instead of in a rounded shape. It is crucial not to cover up discolored nails with nail polish because that will prevent your nail from being able to “breathe”.

In some cases, surgical procedure may be needed to remove the toenail fungus. Consult with your podiatrist about the best treatment options for your case of toenail fungus.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our office located in Arlington, TX . We offer the newest diagnostic and treatment technologies for all your foot care needs.
